Family of humpback whales, Dutch Harbour, Alaska

Today, let"s embark on a watery adventure as we celebrate the critical role oceans play in supporting life on Earth. These gargantuan water bodies, after all, teem with wonders, from the tiniest plankton to the grandest whales like the humpbacks we see here. Weighing as much as 40 metric tonnes and reaching sizes up to 17 metres, humpback whales typically feed in waters around the poles, travelling to tropical areas to breed and give birth. Their songs, ethereal and captivating, resonate through the water, travelling vast distances and enchanting all who hear them. It"s believed to be a means of communication that binds humpback whales together in the vastness of the ocean.
